Cooking Upma / Khara Bath

Here is another easy and fast cooking recipe. Upma also known as Khara bath and in some parts of India its known as Tomato bath. So let us cook Upma:

Ingredients Required:
1 Cup Rava / Sooji
2 Medium size Onion (Chopped)
3 Medium size Green Chillies (Chopped)
1 Medium size Tomato (Chopped)
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Cumin seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder (Optional)
1 tsp Urad Daal
1 tsp Channa Daal
¼ Cup Roasted Peanuts
3 tblsp refined sunflower oil
5 - 6 curry leaves
Coriander leaves to garnish
Salt to taste

Take a frying pan. Put the rava on it and fry it on a moderate heat. Stir it constantly till the rava gets a light brown color. Then keep it aside.

Now heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds. Wait till the seeds start popping. Add the curry leaves, peanuts, channa dal and urad dal to it and fry the mixture till they turn brownish.

Now, add chopped onions and green chillies. Next add chopped tomatoes, turmeric and salt and fry them for another 2-3 minutes. Now pour 3 cups of water into the mixture. Close the pan with a lid and allow it boil on low heat for about 3 mins. Lastly add the fried rava to it stirring constantly till it becomes little thick.

Your Upma / Khara bath is ready to serve, garnished with coriander leaves.
